Forever Second – G2 Esports crashed again in the grand final of a major tournament

G2 Esports lose to FaZe Clan in the CS:GO IEM Katowice 2022 final

The IEM Katowice 2022 tournament that ended with the victory of FaZe Clan will certainly become one of the brightest events of the year for CS:GO fans. And the victory of FaZe Clan that downed G2 Esports 3-0 in the Grand Final is a sensational one.

Phenomenal success FaZe Clan was one of the surprises of the championship. After all, before the championship, connoisseurs had not considered the team as a potential favorite. On the contrary, the team was regarded as an outsider. It was lamented as a good team, but in crisis due to a long losing streak. But it turned out that it was during IEM Katowice 2022 that this streak ended. The team “made” such strong rivals as Gambit Esports, Heroic and G2 Esports. And now FaZe Clan Finn karrigan Andersen again – in the elite CS:GO.

It is worth noting that FaZe Clan’s victory did not come easily. The covid, which has sickened one of the key players, has also made its adjustments. The Norwegian was under serious hopes but had to be replaced by the Australian jks. And that player didn’t let up either. But it was the trio of broky, twistzz and ropz who sealed the win. The latter won, turning the game in his team’s favour on the first card of the Grand Final.

A special mention must go to Finn karrigan Andersen, the 32-year-old captain. The Dane has shown with his play that it would be premature to make him a veteran. And now he is preparing the team for the major in Belgium, where FaZe Clan will certainly be the favourites.

FaZe Clan wins CS:GO IEM Katowice 2022 tournament against G2 Esports

As for G2 Esports, it should be noted that the Spanish club in recent years – stable bad luck. The defeat in the IEM Katowice 2022 final is the fourth defeat in the last two years at these major LAN tournaments where G2 Esports made a huge effort to reach the final, but never reached the victory. At IEM Katowice 2020, IEM Cologne 2021 and PGL Major Stockholm 2021, Natus Vincere were victorious, and in each of the finals their opponent was a G2 Esports team. At IEM Katowice 2022 the NAVI and G2 Esports clash ended in the Spaniards’ favour, but they didn’t make it to the real success this time either.

What was the problem? What caused the crisis at G2? Most likely, it is communication problems and an inability, for whatever reason, to cope with nervousness. Even the team’s most star player, Nikola NiKo Kovac, has problems. The Bosnian seems to be in excellent form, but often collapses by the final, as he did during the IEM Katowice 2022. NiKo had an excellent showing in the group stage but fell apart in the final.

It’s fair to say, however, that the team’s result was influenced by some objective reasons. The team got a new captain: now the players are led by Finn Aleksib Virolainen. A 16-year-old Ilya m0NESY Osipov is also a newcomer. For the Russian, IEM Katowice 2022 is the first major tournament of his career. But m0NESY declared himself as a very promising player from the very beginning. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that it will be him who will lead G2 out of the current crisis.
